The Gurugram police on Tuesday arrested the driver of the Range Rover (Discovery) who allegedly killed two roadside vendors on Gurugram's Golf Course Extension road on Sunday night. The accused has been identified as Amit (31) of Begumpur Khatola village in Gurugram. The accused runs a gym in Gurugram.

According to police, the accused was returning from Arcadia market in sector-50. When he reached Unitech Business Park near Vatika Chowk, he hit the victims from behind. He fled the spot after the incident, leaving the vehicle behind. However, he took the number plates with him.

When the police team reached the spot they found the luxury car was locked. The address of the vehicle's owner was traced through its engine number. It was found that the owner of the car was Ishwar Singh, a resident of Fatehpur Beri village in Delhi.

Subsequently, Ishwar told the police he had gifted the car to his son-in-law Kanwar Singh, a resident of Begumpur Khatola village.

Thereafter, the investigation team found that the accused was a friend of Kunwar.

"After getting these inputs about the accused, the police arrested him," said Subhash Boken, PRO of Gurugram Police.

"The accused will be produced before a local court on Wednesday for further investigation. The vehicle has been seized and the investigations are on," Boken added.

Earlier on Sunday night a 14-year-old boy and his 18-year-old brother-in-law who were roadside vendors, were crushed to death by a speeding Range Rover (Discovery) on Gurugram's Golf Course Extension road. The deceased were identified as Mordhwaj (18) and Anil Yadav (14) of Badaun, Uttar Pradesh.

The incident occurred at around 10.35 pm, in front of Unitech Business Park near Vatika Chowk, where the victims used to run a golgappa stall near the chowk and lived in Tikri village. The victims were returning home when the incident occurred.

An FIR had been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sector 65 police station in Gurugram.
