Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Arun Mohan Joshi launched the new e-challan machines on Thursday at Dilaram Chowk.

Deputy Inspector General (traffic) Keval Khurana said, “The e-challan machines have been distributed in Dehradun district on an experimental basis. If they get good results they will be distributed in other districts also.” SSP Joshi said, “This E-challan machine will bring transparency in the work operation of police department. The machines are connected with the software of National Informatics Centre (NIC) that has been specially developed. Through this we can also mark people who are repeatedly being issued challan. Also, it will be easier to keep a track of challans issued by particular police personnel as they will be having unique login and password.”He also informed that with the use of e-challan machine people will be able to pay the fine through online mode. There will be a unique QR ID through which it will be possible to pay through applications such as Paytm and Google Pay.

According to the information provided by local police, first e-challan of Rs 100 was issued to Arun Kumar, a resident of Kanwli Road. He was driving a vehicle without number plate. It is to mention that on July 6, 13 of the 136 e-challan machines were distributed to the members of City Patrol Unit (CPU) in Dehradun. SP traffic Arya said that CPU is already familiar with the technicalities of this machine, which is why the 13 E-challan machines were given to them on trial basis. Now all the e-challan machines have been distributed to police stations. The number of machines varies according to the population in each area.
