EC announces bypoll for RS seat from UP

The Election Commission on Thursday announced that the by-election to one vacant seat of Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh would be held on December 12.
The Rajya Sabha seat from UP fell vacant after Samajwadi Party member Tazeen Fatma, wife of Lok Sabha member from Rampur, Mohammad Azam Khan, resigned from the Upper House after being elected to UP assembly from Rampur seat in the recent bypolls.
According to the Election Commission, the notification for bypoll to one Rajya Sabha seat from UP will be issued on November 25 and the last date for filing nomination will be December 2. The scrutiny of papers will be done on December 3 and the last date for withdrawing nomination will be December 5. If necessary, the election will be held on December 12 and the result will be declared the same day.
As the Bharatiya Janata Party has absolute majority in the UP assembly, there is not such chance of any election and the winner would be announced after the expiry of the last date for withdrawing nomination on December 5.
The term of the seat will end on November 25, 2020.
