Election Commission of India (ECI) in a letter to all Chief Secretaries and Chief Electoral Officers of state and union territories have asked to conduct all the transfers/postings latest by February 20.
Earlier, the Commission had fixed the date on February 28.
The ECI stated that it revised the date primarily keeping in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls 2019 and general elections for state assemblies of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim.
The letter stated that ECI had issued an earlier letter on January 16 where it was directed to all the states and union territories to carry out transfers/postings of the officials by February 28 and furnishing the compliance report by first week of March 2019.
But amending the earlier circular, ECI has now directed to conduct transfers/postings of all officers covered under the instructions to be carried out by February 20 and submit the compliance report by February 25.
Generally, the criteria of transfer of officials during Lok Sabha election are similar to state assembly election. The officials having completed three years of term at one place, posted in home district and those officials who were served in the post during last Lok Sabha polls in same place.
