ECI urges not to use single use plastic in election campaign

Thursday, 10 October 2019 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

Election Commission of India (ECI) has appealed to all the political parties and independent candidates to use environment friendly materials for election related publicity.

ECI had already written to all the recognised political parties by laying emphasis not to use ‘single use plastic’ in their election related publicity materials.

During the election campaign, the posters, banners, cut-outs, hoardings, advertisement, cutlery, water pouch, bottle should not be of single use plastic, which will have larger impact on the environment, especially on human beings and animals. The situation can be changed through active cooperation in this direction, the ECI stated.

The letter states that in present scenario along with traditional forms environment friendly alternatives are available, which can be used during the election campaign.

Commission stated as a responsible political paries, it is hoped that during the election period, the parties would refrain from using ‘single use plastic’. The meetings can be used to take pledge for motivating people not to use ‘single use plastic’ to make environment plastic free.
