Efforts should be made to improve education: Guv

Governor Lalji Tandon while dedicating the Pt SN Shukla Vishwavidyalaya in Shahdol on Saturday, said that continuous efforts should be made to improve the standard of education and to introduce new curriculum in the universities as per the need of the time.

He said that the university should not be run only on the Government's grant, but also with the cooperation of RUSA and society. The Governor asked the university management to start preparations from now itself to succeed in getting NAAC grading.

The Governor described the system of studying ancient culture along with the new technical knowledge in the universities’ curriculum as essential. He said that the academic quality in the university should be so excellent that it should be replicated by the foreign universities.

Tandon said that the university in Shahdol has been set up for social, economic and educational upliftment of tribal students. He directed that arrangements for plantation, water conservation and augmentation, roof water harvesting and solar energy should be ensured in the university from the point of view of environmental conservation. The Governor said that Gandhi Peeth should be set up in the university to spread the views of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi among the masses. Along with this, research bench should be set up to conserve tribal art and culture, he added.

Presiding over the programme, the Minister for Higher Education Jeetu Patwari said that efforts are being made in the state to make the education system employment oriented. He informed that so far 200 colleges of the state have been upgraded. With a point of view of environment conservation, green campuses are being developed in these colleges.

Patwari further mentioned that shortage of teachers in higher education will be met soon. The Minister for Higher Education expressed hope that the university set up in Shahdol will contribute in the development of students belonging to the poor section of the society. He asked the university to make free transport arrangement for students in the university and to connect it with highway.

The dedication ceremony was also addressed by the District In-Charge and Minister for Tribal Affairs, Denotified, Nomad and Semi-Nomad Tribal Welfare Omkar Singh Markam.

The Vice Chancellor of the University Mukesh Tiwari, while presenting a report, said that the university is determined for the conservation of tribal art and culture as well as research work.
