The Derabish police on Monday arrested 24-year-old egg seller Chatturbhuja Sethy for his alleged involvement in raping a nine-year-old girl on Sunday evening.
Derabish police station IIC Umakanta Nayak said the minor girl was returning home with her friend after purchasing cheese from a nieghbouring village. On the way, the girls came across Sethy and asked him to give them a lift in his luna.
But instead of taking them to their village he instead took them to his village Paripalei and allegedly threatened to kill them. In the meantime, Sethy received a call on his mobile phone. When he stopped the moped to attend the call, the two girls ran away. But Sethy chased them and nabbed the victim. He then dragged her to a nearby paddy field and raped her, said Nayak.
The other girl managed to reach her village and informed the victim’s parents about their ordeal. Later, her family members rushed to the spot and rescued the victim. They also severely thrashed Sethy but he managed to escape from the spot.
Later, the victim’s family lodged a complaint with Derabish police, who launched a hunt and nabbed the accused. Police produced the accused Sethy in the SDJM court on Monday. He was sent to judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected, said the IIC.
