Elated first-timers throng booths

Monday, 13 May 2019 | SHEKHAR SINGH /CHANDAN PRAKASH/ GAYATHRI MANI | NEW DELHI

Visibly enthusiastic and filled with excitement "first time voters" exercised their franchise on Sunday at different polling booths across national Capital.

For youngsters who voted on Sunday problems are many and their demands from the next Government include more institutes, jobs, women safety, and freedom to speak and address the issues of environment, religious intolerance and sanitation.

Some youngsters said they were not moved by the idea of nationalism while other appreciated the Government's "efforts against terrorism".

Abhay Sharma (19), a resident of Vasant Kunj said my first vote has been casted with hope that new Government will focus on jobs and environment issues in Delhi.

However, Esha Singh (21), who lives in Dwarka Sector-6 voted for improvement in women safety and religious intolerance. "I hope the candidate who will win and represent our constituency will focus on women safety. I also hope he would also raise the voice against religious intolerance in Country which is on hike," said Esha.

"The residents of Chattarpur are facing issues related to sanitation. I have voted for the first time and I hope this issue will be resolved by the winner of South Delhi constituency Parliament seat. If sanitation issue is resolved I will be happy that my vote has been in favour of development," said  Aditya, a resident of Chattarpur Enclave phase-2.

"We have voted looking at the respect India is getting in foreign countries. Modi has travelled to several countries and he has brought investment, which will start yielding results in coming days," said Ankur, a resident of Mukherjee Nagar.

"Where in the world do you see a Prime Minister addressing the students before the board examinations? Modi is the one. No politician can love the youth as much as he does. He takes out time from his busy schedule to talk to students, to meet them so that he can address their issues," said Ananya (19), who voted for the first time at Greater Kailash.

"We youth are the future generation of this country, if the government will provide good schemes, scholarships and jobs, the youths of this country will make the country number one. Be it Modi or Rahul, the promises made y them in the public rally meeting should also be proved in reality, on papers," said Aishwarya, 21 year old.

Another voter Ganshyam Sharma in Chandini Chowk constituency said that, "The youth will not get jobs till the Nation will be ruled by the Narendra Modi's party. the Aam Aadmi Party has at least fulfill its party but this BJP has done nothing for the people."

Mansi Gupta, a resident of Nand Nagri after casting her vote said that "I have studied lots about the democratic system of our country and feeling very ecstatic after voting for the first time. I have voted in anticipation that the new government will create an ample job opportunity. Besides handling issue like poverty, terrorism and women security," she said.

"I was excited to vote and finally it is done. There are many issues that need to be addressed and only a strong government can tackle all these like corruption, terrorism, unemployment among others," said Vivek Tyagi, a resident of Burari.
