The sleuths of Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Uttar Pradesh Police made two more arrests in the multi-crore rupees power employees provident fund scam.
Sources confirmed that after grilling him for more than 24 hours, the EOW arrested Abhinav Gupta, son of PK Gupta, one of the Power Employees Trust directors of UPPCL who was arrested earlier along with then MD Ayodhya Prasad Mishra and another official.
Besides Abhinav, his henchman, Asheesh Chowdhary, was also arrested on Wednesday.
Abhinav was charged for introducing a bogus company to the Trust to recommend investment in DHFL. He had taken huge money as “commission” for this service. The EOW found that most of the brokerage companies were fake.
The EOW had earlier arrested former UPPCL MD AP Mishra, former director (finance) of UPPCL Employees Trust Sudhanshu Dwivedi and general manager of the Trust PK Gupta.
The arrests were made after the scam came to light in which employees trust of the UPPCL invested Rs 2,600 crore in the controversial DHFL which is reported to have link with underworld.
UP Energy Minister Shrikant Sharma has blamed the previous Akhilesh Yadav government for the scam while Samajwadi Party has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party government in UP for the irregularity.
