A team of experts led by Kumbh Mela officer Deepak Rawat reviewed the conservation of historical Raja Mansingh ki Chhatri at Har ki Paidi after closure of the Ganga canal. Very soon a departmental team will start the work of restoration after the detailed report of the inspection is received.
The inspection team consisted of experts from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee, Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The team was formed following the orders of the High Court of Uttarakhand to restore this historical monument to its original form.
Speaking to The Pioneer, the Kumbh Mela officer Deepak Rawat said, "After Ganga canal closure we have reviewed the site from a close angle. As soon as the report of the three organisations is finalised the work of restoration of of Mansingh ki Chhatri will be done.”
It is believed that when the father of Raja Mansingh had died, he sent the ashes of his father for immersion in the Ganga but the local priests refused calling him ‘Dharm Bhrasht” since he had got his daughter married to Akbar. Then priests from Maharashtra were brought here for rituals. During the 1998 Kumbh Mela, a cemented structure was built over Mansingh Ki Chhhatri which still exists.
