In a big breakthrough, Bokaro police busted an extortionist gang and arrested its one member while the kingpin of the gang is still at large.

Arrested was identified as Santosh Dey alias Raju alias Rajesh who was extorting money on the name of CPI Maoist from the outsourcing companies engaged in constructions works hear at Bokaro while the kingpin Dhananjay Pradhan is out of police net, ‘Raids are on’, said Kartik S Superintendent of Police Bokaro. Santosh is a resident of Adityapur of Saraikela-Kharsawa, police recovered two mobile phones from his possession. “This gang is active in extortion of money from the private companies across Bokaro, Ranchi and Dhanbad districts,” added SP.

“This gang is operational in Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bokaro and other districts in Jharkhand; Private companies, Contractors and Project heads of outsourcing companies engaged in the construction of road, bridge, railway lines and others usually remain their soft targets,” added SP.

Following a complaint lodged by Sweth Shekhar the Project Manager of Chennai Radha Engineering Works Private Limited working in Jarangdih, Khasmahal and Govindpur Coal areas for repeatedly receiving extortion calls for levy, we have constituted a special team to nab the criminal, said SP.

According to FIR lodged at Bokaro Thermal Police station, Shekhar was repeatedly getting threaten call by Santosh for levy. Santosh making phone calls told Shekhar that he is a member of CPI Maoist and threatened him to kill and torch vehicles in the project if he will not pay money to him, stated in FIR.

During interrogation, Santosh confessed his crime and told to police that Dhananjay Pradhan is the kingpin of the gang. “We have received vital information, hunt for the kingpin and others are on, we are conducting raids”, added SP.
