Faculty development programme on earth system science at RU

The 10 day faculty development programme on ICT in Earth System Science commenced at Department of Geology, Ranchi University on Saturday.

Coordinator of the programme, and head of geology department at RU, Prof. Bijay Singh said, "The programme is open for industries personnel, faculty members of universities and engineering colleges, government professionals, research scholars and post graduate students. The aim of organizing this programme is to enhance the use of communication and telecommunication in digitizing the changes on earth system."

The programme is organized under the banner of Electronics and ICT Academy, NIT Patna and is sponsored by Ministry of Electronic and Information Technology, Government of India.

The objectives of the programme are to provide tutorial instruction, make use of integrated learning systems and simulation modeling, using databases and spreadsheets, data logging and much more.

Speaking about ITC Singh said, “It includes all the modern techniques of communication right from web technology, radar communication, and more. It’s something the common man uses every day. We are going to use these technologies in earth system sciences.”

 The programme will also help in controlling and monitoring experiments, graphicing, working with interactive media, accessing information for the internet technologies and updating participants on software used in earth system sciences.

"The participants will be trained for the entire ICT techniques, specially its usage in earth system science. The training will be both theoretical and practical and experts from across country have been invited to train the participants," Singh said.

The expert trainers include Prof. Bijay Singh, Head, University Department of Geology, RU, Siddharth Kumar Rai, Joint Director, Software Technology Parks of India, Ministry of E&IT, Government of India, Prof. AC Pandey, head, SLRM, Central University of Jharkhand, Ajey Kumar Pathak, Senior Scientist, NBFGR-IISR, Lucknow, Director, Jharkhand Space Application Centre (JSAC), VK Baraik, Associate Professor, IGNOU, New Delhi, Dinesh Singh, Associate Professor, TERI, Ghazipur,  Govind Singh, Assistant Professor, MGCGV University, MP, Aprana Singh, Assistant Professor, APS University, Rewa MP and Brijendra Kumar Yadav, Assistant Professor, GPDC, Bundelkhand University, UP.

The organizing committee of the programme is headed by Prof.DK Bhattacharya while BR Jha is the convener. The other members of the committee include Nitish Priyadarshi, J Nandi, Neha Malllick, Jugnu Prasad and AR Bilung.
