Fake spices making unit busted in J’pore

The Jeypore Town police busted a fake spices manufacturing unit and seized a huge cache of raw materials and adulterated spices of several brands here late on Thursday night.

A police team raided a house belonging to one Harihar Patra at PR Petta Lane here and seized materials worth around Rs 5 lakh. The police detained Patra in connection with the operation of the factory.

According to reports, the duplicate spices in name of popular brands like Everest and MDH were manufactured at the factory and transported to the markets in undivided Koraput district. The packets were brought from Brahmapur in Ganjam district.

“After getting information about the duplicate spices of Everest brand being packaged illegally here, we conducted raid at the house and found loose spices in the packets of popular brands. The raw materials were brought from Brahmapur. Raids will also be conducted in other places in connection with it,” said Jeypore Town police station IIC Baleswar Giddhi.

Police launched an operation to nab the prime accused in connection with the fake spices manufacturing.
