Family tortured on suspicion of ‘witchcraft’

Police have arrested three persons in connection with an incident in which a family of Nuaguda village in the district was tortured on suspicion of performing black magic.

The arrestees were identified as Ghenu Jani, Pada Jani, and Purusati Jani.

According to sources, some cattle were found dead at Nuaguda village a few days ago. Following this, villagers alleged that Banamali Jena and his family were responsible for this as they practise witchcraft.

The villagers then forced Banamali and his family to wash hands with hot water mixed with cow dung.

In the incident, Banamali, his wife and daughter sustained serious burn injuries in their hands. They lodged a complaint with the local police in this regard. On the basis of the complaint, police arrested the three persons.
