The fifth district roller skating championship was organised by Haridwar district roller skating association in the skating rink of new Saint Thomas Academy at Roshnabad here on Sunday. As many as 250 participants from 13 schools in Haridwar, Rishikesh and Roorkee participated in the event.
Presiding as chief guest, the municipal council chairman Rajiv Sharma said that skating is a sport which teaches a person balance in life. The first thing needed for a good skater is to have balance, he said. The principal of the new Saint Thomas Academy, Beta Garg said, "We hold skating classes twice a week for students. It is an optional subject and in the past few years we have seen the increasing craze for skating among children."
The contest was held for children in the under six year and under 18 years cagetories.
Skating coach Vatsal Saxena said that for one month any skating enthusiast is given adjustable skates compulsorily to practice on, after that they move on to the regular skates.
The general secretary of the district roller skating association, Shantanu Manglik said the winners of district championship will be sent for the State level championship in coming days.
