1.27 crore voters to decide fate of 123 candidates in 7 LS seats

Chhattisgarh is all set for the final phase of polling on Tuesday in which over 1.27 crore voters will seal fate of 123 candidates in seven parliamentary seats though the main contest is between the BJP and the Congress candidates.

Voting will be held from 7am to 5pm in Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Korba, Raigarh, Surguja and Janjgir Lok Sabha seats amid tight security arrangements.

The first phase of polling was held for Bastar seat on April 11 while in the second phase on April 18 Rajnandgoan, Mahasamund and Kanker Parliamentary constituencies went to polls.

Chhattisgarh’s chief electoral officer Subrat Sahoo informed that a total of 1,27,12,816 electors will cast their votes in the seven parliamentary seats on Tuesday for which Election Commission has allowed 12 documents as identity proof.

In Raigarh and Bilaspur 25 candidates each are in the fray. In Raigarh 14, Korba 13, Janjgir-Champa 15, Durg 21 and Surguja 10 candidates are vying for the seat.

A total of 15,408 polling centers have been set up for the final phase of voting. Raipur has 2343, Bilaspur 2221, Raigarh 2327, Korba 2008, Janjgir-champa 2173, Durg 2183 and Surguja 2153 polling centres.

Over 67,796 polling personnel have been deployed while 617 polling centres have been declared as sensitive. In seven PCs a total of 288 ‘Sanghwari’ (all women) polling booths have been established. A total of 333 model polling centres and 60 centres for differently-abled voters have been made. Webcasting will be done from 3,200 polling centres.

The total electors in Raigarh PC is 21,11,104, Bilaspur has 18,75,904 electors, Raigarh has 17,31,655 electors, Korba has 15,07,779 electors, Janjgir-Champa has 18,95,232 electors, Durg has 19,38,319 electors and Surguja has 16,53,283 electors.

The smallest polling centre 143 of hamlet Sheradand under Chandha village Panchayat of Koriya district has four electors while in Bharatpur-Sonhat area at Kanto and Revla polling centre, the number of electors are less than 20.
