Energy department officials conducted raids at different urban and rural locations in Bokaro district and lodged FIR against 17 people for stealing power at the local police stations and fined Rs 1.30 lakh to the defaulters.
A team lead by Sadan Laha Assistant Electrical Engineer conducted raids at different locations under Herla Police station. A total of Rs 1,29,800 has been fined on all of them who were found stealing electricity, said Laha adding, “FIR was lodged against the defaulters at their corresponding police stations.”
FIR was lodged against Gayasuddin Ansari, Ahmad Ansari, Raman Ansari, Saruddin Ansari, Abdul Ansari, Janul Ansari, Bhola Prasae, Abu Kalam, Ambika Prasad, Harivansh Prasad, Manoj Singh, Hanif Ansari, Hamid Ansari, Belal Ansari, Santosh Murmu including others, police said.
“Theft of electricity is a crime, punishable by fines and or imprisonment. Despite our consistent raids, power theft incidents are still coming to fire in Bokaro as people have started opting new ways for stealing power,” said Laha.
Taking tough steps the General Manager Electricity SN Prasad ordered for immediate disconnection of the power supply of those consumers who have dues bills more than 5000 rupees, he informed.
