Five Maoists give up arms in Bastar region

Five Maoists, including a hardcore-ultra carrying a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head, gave up arms in the restive Dantewada, Jagdalpur and Narayanpur districts, police said on Thursday.

“Mehttar Korram alias Ronda a resident of Dhaudai police station under Narayanpur district handed over his 12-bore gun to police. He was President of Maoist Jantana Sarkar, active in Bayanar area committee and carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head,” a police official from Narayanpur informed.

Ronda was involved in over a dozen of encounters between Maoists and police force. He was also wanted in connection with the murder of a villager at Kanhargaon in 2016.

In a different incident, Manju Mandavi and Sonaru Poyam who were members of Maoist LOS active in Odisha gave up arms before Bastar police.

According to police they were involved in various Maoist attacks in which 25 police personnel were killed and 7 sustained serious injuries.

In Dantewada, two Maoists carrying cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on their heads gave up arms before the SP Dantewada.

Sannu Kunjam was a Maoist Janmilita Commander and Budhram Mandavi was Maoist DAKMS (Dandkaranya Kisan Adivasi Majdor Sangh) member. They were active in Ganglur region and were wanted in              connection with incidents like attack on police party, planting IEDs and similar other subversive activities.
