The intra-State commercial air service is likely to resume from the Jeypore airstrip in Koraput district by the first week of February this year.
Sources said the airstrip’s construction work is in progress. While the project is almost completed, some pending work would be done by March this year.
The formalities required to obtain permission from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also been almost completed. The district administration is likely to apply for a licence in January last week, the sources said.
Officials from the Air Traffic Control (ATC)-Communication are likely to visit the airstrip this week for an inspection of the construction work and review the infrastructure related to air traffic control.
Notably, the flight services from Jeypore are now shut since December 2016. Last year, the airstrip was included under the UDAN scheme for regional air connectivity.
With the proposed resumption of air services, there is now a hope for launching of regular flights from Jeypore to Bhubaneswar.
