Former player alleges anomalies in selection

Wednesday, 04 September 2019 | PNS | Haridwar

A former player of Ranji Trophy camp has alleged that the recent selections made by Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) were biased and just an eyewash without searching for the real talent from the district. For forthcoming under 19 team trials, better facilities must be provided to cricketers in the interest of the nation, he said.

Addressing a press conference in Press Club of Haridwar, former player of Ranji Trophy camp, Uttrakhand, Rohan Sehgal along with other coaches said that the cricket enthusiasts had been met with disappointment by the recent selection procedures undertaken by Cricket Association of Haridwar under CAU. He said, “It was hoped that after the state cricket association getting full accreditation from BCCI, the trial matches arranged for the players from August 28 to 30 would be improved but unfortunately the level of selection was even worse than before.”

Sehgal also alleged that the ground where the trial match was held, the pitch made was in no way fit for playing cricket. It was just made of mud on which any player would be unable to show his talent.

This clearly shows that the trial was just a formality. Also the players who were selected for the state level last year were not given any chance this year. Expressing concern on the forthcoming trials, Sehgal said that selections for under 19 team trial are about to be done which is a matter of concern for the sports enthusiasts. So, keeping in view the future of the the cricket players, he appealed to the organisers to make good pitch available for the cricketers. He said the selection procedure for sports persons must be fair so that there is no clash between them.

An unbiased and fair trial should be done without being influenced by any politics so that the players from Uttrakhand shine not only in national but also international level cricket tournaments, he said.
