The members of the United Citizen Forum and other civic bodies of Kandhamal sent a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra modi through Collector Dr D Brunda for setting up of a Government medical college and hospital at Phulbani.
The forum has been demanding persistently since last two decades but the Government has turned a blind eye to the genuine demand.
The people of Kandhmal and three neighbouring districts namely Boudh, Subarnapur and Nayagarh have been demanding to avail better health service. Their difficulty is that they have to cover 175 to 250 km to get better health service.
In 2017, former Union Health Minister Fagsn Singh Kulaste had categorically asked the State Government to submit a report in this regard but the same has yet to be submitted.
“If the genuine demand will not be fulfilled, the forum will be forced to resort a district wide agitation in lawful manner,” said forum convener Ashok Parida.
District Bar Association secretary Manoj Patnaik, senior advocates Bijaya Mohanty, Bijaya Patnaik, Birendra Subudhi, senior journalist Arup Jena, senior citizen forum member Sarbeswar Mishra, Banik Sangh president Ashok Pattnaik and many college students were present.
