The ruling Congress’s Chhattisgarh in-charge PL Punia on Thursday hinted that his party would give preference to “fresh faces and women" while allocating tickets for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections in the state.
The party’s similar preference in the assembly elections only a few months ago brought it huge dividend.
Talking to media persons here, Punia further informed that the party has almost finalised the list of candidates for the state after a series of meetings party’s election and screening committee held in New Delhi.
“The Congress will declare its list of Lok Sabha candidates in Chhattisgarh within a couple of days,” he said.
“The constituency-wise list of candidates for Chhattisgarh is almost finalised and the party high command could declare the names by March 17”, said Punia.
He exuded confidence that the Congress would repeat its assembly poll performance in the general elections and the party was fully prepared for the polling.
Replying to a query on allotment of LS tickets to relatives of leaders, he said nominations would be given only to winnable candidates and that kinship was not a parameter in the selection process.
“Anyone can seek ticket, but the winnability is the only criteria for the selection as was the case during the assembly polls”, he said.
