The Forest Research Institute (FRI) celebrated International Day for Biodiversity with the aim of spreading awareness on the theme “Our Biodiversity, Our Food and Our Health” among common people. On this occasion, the institute director AS Rawat inaugurated an exhibition was put up in the corridor of FRI main building.
The institute’s extension division head AK Pandey gave brief information about the exhibits (food and medicine from forest) to the director. The exhibition was a showcase of edible wild fruits, medicinal plants and their products.
A stall put by social activist associated with Beej Bachao Andolan, Vijay Jardhari from Jardhar village in Tehri district elicited much appreciation for the forest seeds, herbs, fruits, pulses and other items displayed. In the exhibition, scientific interventions carried out by the institute were also displayed through posters and other displays.
Heads of divisions, scientists, research staff and students were present on the occasion. The exhibition was open to the general public till 5 PM.
