G’gram police on cycles to curb street crimes

In an order to keep tab on street crime and on anti-social elements, the Gurugram Police will now be patrolling on bicycles. The police department has given the name ‘Beat cycle’ the policemen who patrol by the bicycles .

In order to implement this unique initiative, a written order has also been issued by Commissioner of Police, Gurugram Muhammad Akil.

Apart from patrolling by PCR / Riders / SHOs, police personnel will also patrol on bicycles in overcrowded, narrow streets, parks and residential areas. Also, the name of the police station has also been written on the bicycle and orders have been given to the policemen who will patrol on the bicycle to keep sticks, notebooks and touches with him.

For this, two bicycles and two helmets have been distributed in all the police stations of Gurugram district while five cycles have been provided to Sadar police station Gurugram.

“With this unique initiative the police will be able to establish good coordination among the people and will also give a good message to the people regarding the environment being contaminated and people will also take this initiative,” said Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Akil.

 “The main purpose of the Gurugram police patrolling the cycle is to maintain security, law and order, keeping an eye on crime and street crimes. With the cycle patrolling, the presence of Gurugram police will be more visible and it will help to curb crime”, the police chief added.

The police commissioner also said the officials will set an example and we expect many to follow them.Women officers will also turn to bicycles for patrolling on the few identified areas soon. They will keep a watch on people trying to harass women.

The police officials also added that this could be a revival of the traditional beat patrolling system wherein officers moved around on a bicycle, facilitating better interaction with the community. Beat police patrolled specific areas at a particular time and maintained close relationships with the community for effective policing and safer society.
