Gandhi family to visit Rae Bareli, Amethi tomorrow

Sunday, 21 April 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

All members of the Gandhi family are likely to be in Amethi and Rae Bareli on Monday where they will campaign to retain their prestigious seats.

Voting in these two constituencies will take place on May 6.

Sources confirmed that Congress president Rahul Gandhi, United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi and All-India Congress Committee general secretary and east UP in-charge Priyanka Vadra Gandhi, will reach Rae Bareli on Monday morning. While Rahul will proceed to Amethi, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka will stay back in Rae Bareli.

The sources further confirmed that Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka would hold two separate meetings in Rae Bareli and also meet party workers and leaders in Bhuemau Guest House to assess the situation.

Sonia Gandhi also has plans to visit some villages and hold ‘chaupals’ to get first hand account of on-going work and connect with the villagers to ensure her victory.

Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka will also stay in Bhuemau Guest House on Monday night and continue campaigning on Tuesday before the UPA chairperson flies back to New Delhi.

This time, Sonia Gandhi faces opposition from her former partyman Dinesh Pratap Singh, who left the Congress to join the Bharatiya Janata Party some months back and has been fielded from there.

Meanwhile, spokesman of Amethi District Congress Committee, Anil Singh, confirmed that Rahul Gandhi will hold roadshows in his parliamentary constituency on Monday.

Singh said that Rahul Gandhi will hold roadshows in Tiloi and Salon Assembly segments of the constituency and also address some nukkad sabhas during his roadshow.

The Congress president is seeking re-election from Amethi and is involved in a direct fight with BJP’s Smriti Irani.
