Gateman keeps railway level-crossing open in Puri

Sunday, 20 January 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has ordered an inquiry against a gateman who allegedly did not close the gate at a level-crossing in Puri district even after being instructed to do so. The incidence took place at the Sidhamahavir level-crossing at around 7.25 am. “The Khurda Road Railway Division has ordered an officer-level inquiry into the incident,” said ECoR Chief Public Relations Officer JP Mishra.

A four-member inquiry team comprising heads of Safety, Electrical Operations, Singal and General Operations Departments would probe the matter and submit the report, Mishra added. The gateman placed two red flags but did not close the gate when Puri-Hatia-Puri Tapaswini Express train was going by despite being instructed by the Station Master, he informed.

Later, ECoR suspended Loco Pilot Govind Sahu and Assistant Loco Pilot Umesh Kumar for negligence in duty, said an ECoR release.
