Thirteen year old Samira is all smiles on joining school after her primary education was over in Rishikul government school number 28. Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign is achieving results in government school for girls in Jwalapur where the number of seats for girl students has been enhanced to 260 in comparison to 224 seats till last academic session. In just four days, the inter college admitted 260 girl students announcing admissions closed after the same.
Notably against 120 allotted seats, last year the college had admitted 224 girl students, but this year it has been increased to 260. The college principal felicitated the parents of the girls who took admission in class VI.
Speaking to The Pioneer, principal of college GGIC Poonam Rana said, “We had launched awareness campaigns in the township of Jwalapur announcing admission of girl students on first come first serve basis. The positive results were seen in the first four days of admission announcement. There is no other junior high school in the area of Jwalapur, and most of the parents do not wish to send their girls far for studying. With public schools being unapproachable on account of high fees, GGIC is the only accessible inter college in the area.
The inter-college principal said that three sections of class VI are being run for the past few years. This year new rooms have been constructed under district programme, new students shall be accommodated in the same.
However the shortage of teachers is a perennial issue with more than half a dozen posts of teachers of subjects including Biology, English, PT, Hindi and Sanskrit vacant.
