GM secondary school students stage demo

Friday, 18 October 2019 | PNS | SAMBALPUR

The Gangadhar Meher Higher Secondary School (formerly as Junior College) witnessed a turbulent situation following an agitation by the students protesting transfer of eight teaching staffs.

“In present situation, the plus two wing is facing acute staff crunch and the transfer of eight staffs at a time in the middle of the session without substitutes will add to the problem further,” alleged students.

The students closed the main gate of the university (where it is functioning) and staged a dharna demanding immediate cancellation of the order.

However, the Principal reached the spot and had discussions with the students after which they opened the main gate and allowed other students and staffs to enter college and university.

It might be mentioned here that there are 44 teaching staffs positions in the college out of which only 35 are filled up for 18 departments. And if eight staffs are transferred then studies of students would be affected badly.

However, some students alleged that the Government is taking revenge with teachers, who had supported the students in their demand for not shifting it from the GM University campus, and is transferring them from the college. The students went to meet the Collector but due his absence they met the Sub-Collector, who has moved to Government mentioning the problem of the students and requested to cancel the transfer of the teachers.
