Journalists and students of mass media courses were given tips on recognizing fake news in a day long workshop on Poll Check organized by Google news on Tuesday.
A total of 93 participants including journalists from print, television and web media and students of Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ), Ranchi University and Gossner College attended the workshop.
The participants were also informed about digital security and youtube live.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Dev Vrat Singh, Dean and Head of CUJ's public information department said, "Fake news is causing severe harm to journalists and journalism. Citizens of the country need to be made aware of fake news so that they can use social networking modes like Facebook and Twitter sensibly. In such a situation where fake news has becomea menace, this initiative of Google is worth appreciation."
Speaking on the occasion, Google Trainer Professor Umesh Arya said that information explosion has taken place in the era of communication.
Information is reaching the common people through mobile phones, but technology has created many challenges. In such an environment there is no alternative for journalists except improving their technical skills. Google trainer Rashmi Verma informed the participants about verification of photos and videos. She also informed about the use of Youtube during elections.Google is organizing such workshops in 30 major cities of the country.
