Govt gets tough as Pvt hospitals continue strike

Sunday, 17 February 2019 | PNS | Dehradun

The strike of the private hospitals and clinics for the demand of an amended ‘Clinical Establishments Act’ continued for second consecutive day on Saturday. Meanwhile, acting tough, the health department on the orders of the State Government has started sealing the unregistered clinics and hospitals on Saturday.

When contacted, the chief medical officer (CMO) of Dehradun, Dr S K Gupta said that the action against the unregistered hospitals would continue. He further said that a team led by ACMO, Dr K K Singh and additional tehsildar, B P Jagudi has been constituted to check the hospitals. The team went to Doon Vedanta and Trauma Centre located on EC Road in the morning and found that the hospital was unregistered following which the hospital was sealed.

Meanwhile, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) which has given a call to lock down the hospitals and the demand of the amended Act remains adamant to continue its agitation.

The general secretary of the association Dr D D Chaudhury said that following talks with the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, the draft of the ‘Uttarakhand Healthcare Establishment Act’ had been formulated and submitted. “ But the State Government has  been sitting on it,” he said.

The association of the private medical practitioners are demanding the modified clinical establishment Act be implemented in the State at the earliest.

It is also demanding that the clinical establishments should not be forced to adopt schemes like Ayushman Bharat Yojana and Atal Ayushman Yojana against their will. The IMA has suggested that Uttarakhand Government should follow the Haryana model of the Act where all clinical establishments having less than 50 beds are exempted from the purview of the stringent provisions of the Act.
