Govt had promised to enact Advocates' Protection Act: CM

Chief Minister Kamal Nath said that the Government had promised to enact Advocates' Protection Act and it would honour its promise. Soon it will be finalized in the cabinet to make it a model law.

Responding to the demand of the advocates, Kamal Nath said that if they form housing societies, the government will provide them all the necessary facilities. He was addressing a symposium on the Advocates' Protection Act at Minto Hall here on Saturday.

At the outset, participating advocates paid tribute to veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister New Delhi Smt. Sheila Dikshit by observing two-minute silence.

The Chief Minister said that the biggest ideological commitment for advocates is towards the protection of the Constitution and the laws. He said that the Constitution of India is world's most unique document as this is evolved in a nation, which is known for its rich diversity of castes, religions, communities, cultures, traditions. The Constitution of such a country is an example for the world. It is the responsibility of everyone to respect and protect it. He urged all the advocates to respect their noble profession.

The Chief Minister said that every law is born out of the Constitution. He said that freedom, equality and justice are the constituents of democracy. Despite this, freedom and equality have limitations of but there is no limit for the justice. Therefore, the legal profession must be respected.

Minister for Law PC Sharma welcomed the lawyers and said the draft Advocates' Protection Law is being finalized. Every issue of the safety of the lawyers is being incorporated so that it becomes a model law. He the issues like insurance for lawyers and giving them pension cover are being debated. Concrete results will come out soon. He said that every promise under the guidance of Chief Minister Kamal Nath will be honoured. Rajya Sabha member Vivek Tankha spoke about the background of the Act. The Advocate General Shashank Shekhar and senior advocates from across the state were present.
