The Uttar Pradesh government has issued new licences of bars to hotels and restaurants in 14 districts.
The government is of the view that the move would not only ensure availability of quality India Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) but also increase the revenue of Excise department and create new job opportunities for cooks, waiters, security guards and sanitation staff.
Principal Secretary (Excise) Sanjay Bhoosreddy said that new bar licences had been issued in the last few years as tourist inflow in Varanasi, Noida, Agra and Lucknow had peaked and also the lifestyle of common citizen had changed with increase in their disposable income.
Eight fresh bar licences have been issued in Lucknow, seven in Agra, six in Gorakhpur, four in Gautam Buddha Nagar, three in Prayagraj, two each in Varanasi, Aligarh and Badaun and one each in Mirzapur, Moradabad, Jhansi, Ghaziabad, Bahraich and Bareilly.
