Govt restricts onion stocks for wholesalers, retailers

nWith onion prices still rising high, the state government is making all possible efforts to stop black-marketing of it.

Apart from selling onions at fair price shops across the state, the government on Friday made restriction of stocks for the wholesale distributers as well as retailers.

In a press statement, official sources informed that the wholesalers have been permitted to stock 25 tons of onion while the restriction for retailers is 5 tons.

The food officers across the state have been instructed to take necessary action after inspecting the godowns to ensure the new stock limit is adhered, sources said.

Notable, the fair price shops across the state are already selling 10 to 15 quintals of onion per day. Here the beneficiaries are provided 5 kg of onion, he informed.

Apart from it, with coordination with the wholesale distributers onion is being sold at seven earmarked places of the state capital at the price of Rs 70 per kilogram, he informed.

The state requires 30 thousand tons of onion per month and it is being imported from neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka, sources said.
