Govt told to explain land allocation in Nainisar

Thursday, 16 May 2019 | PNS | Nainital

The high court has ordered a stay on construction being undertaken at Nainisar in Almora district by Jindal Group’s Himanshu Educational Society.

The court has also asked the government to explain the basis on which government land was allocated to the private company’s society. The government has been told to submit an affidavit in this regard.

During hearing of the case on Wednesday, the government counsel informed the division bench of chief justice Ramesh Ranganathan and justice Ramesh Chandra Khulbe that due to public opposition, the construction work had been stopped by the group for about a year and a half.

In a PIL filed in the high court, Almora resident Bishan Singh and PC Tiwari have stated that in 2015, the State Government had allocated 353 nali land at Nainisar to the industrial group’s education society for building an international school.

The petitioners have stated that the land was allocated on lease at throwaway rate without following the legal procedure. The consent of the villagers was also not taken in this matter.
