Guv asks varsities to guide society

Friday, 18 October 2019 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Governor Lalji Tandon has asked the universities of the state to come forward to guide the society. He has said that it is necessary to have cleanliness in the system and environment. Basic efforts for building a new system should be given priority, only then will there be effective progress.

Tandon was speaking in a discussion with the vice-chancellors of four universities at Raj Bhavan on Thursday.

Tandon said that universities should be made the centre to familiarize students with the practical benefits of new research and methods in the field of environmental protection and economic development. The universities must present a model of self-reliance. He said that extensive plantation should be carried out in the campus.

Planting saplings of trees for commercial purpose on protected land will be an investment for future financial needs. Later, the university will receive a large amount of funds. Similarly, the use of solar energy will also save electricity. Water conservation works will pave the way for solving the global problem of water crisis. Similarly, the production of organic manure from campus waste will serve as compost for the plants. Sufficient funds will also be available to meet the future needs of the university without any expenditure.

The Governor has cautioned the universities that in the new academic year, the only criteria for review would be decision and its adherence. He said that the problems and needs of universities have been resolved. It should be ensured now itself as to who will be responsible for not getting outcome. He said that now if the result of the examination is delayed, it will be the responsibility of the Vice Chancellor to take action against the concerned and declare the result on time. If this does not happen, the Chancellor will be held responsible.

Tandon said that the chancellors would have to take initiative for the academic environment. Their motivation will influence teachers and students. He said that it is mandatory to maintain cleanliness in the system along with the campus. Not conducting an audit is like not justifying expenditure. This is a serious economic crime.
