Governor Lalji Tandon today held discussions at length with the Vice Chancellors of Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University-Jabalpur and Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Agriculture University-Gwalior at Raj Bhavan.

The discussion pertaining to the development and expansion of agriculture and enhancing income from agriculture took place in the meeting. The Principal Secretary Agriculture Ajit Kesri, Secretary to Governor Manohar Dubey and Law Officer Bharat P Maheshwari were present at the meeting.

The Governor said that our country is primarily an agriculture country. Madhya Pradesh tops in production of various crops. Multi crop method should be adopted in farming because continuous sowing of the same crop leads to a decline in production and prices, which the farmers bear. He said that by multiple crops, the loss of one crop can be compensated by the other.

The Governor said that the universities should determine through study and research that in how much area which crop should be sown. They should also encourage the farmers for adopting scientific method in agriculture. The scientists of the universities must hold discussions with the farmers from time to time so that coordination between scientific and traditional farming could be established.

Tandon laid emphasis on making the farmers prosperous through organic farming, zero budget farming, horticulture and innovations in the agriculture universities. The Governor stressed the need to advise the farmers towards use of bio-fertiliser made up of cow dung, urine, gram flour and jaggery. The Governor further stated that the agriculture universities should take initiative to grow crops of other states in Madhya Pradesh with scientific method. Besides existing courses, universities must introduce other employment oriented courses, he added.
