Gwalior metropolitan tag on hold

Sunday, 15 September 2019 | PNS | Gwalior

n Gwalior will have to wait for some more time to acquire the status of a metropolitan city. This was stated by Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary Sudhi Ranjan Mohanty during his discussions with the press here on Sunday before leaving for Bhopal. He told the media persons that the case of Gwalior can be considered only after those of Indore and Bhopal.

Earlier, Jyodiraditya Scindia, Congress leader and former Union Minister had requested the MP Chief Minister Kamal Nath to upgrade the city as a metropolitan city and had mentioned that Gwalior meets most of the parameters necessary for a metro city.

Scindia, in his letter had impressed upon the CM the importance of Gwalior as a historical and fast developing area with a strong business environment and social infrastructure. Scindia had also reminded the CM that his late father Madhav Rao Scindia was instrumental in developing Gwalior as a counter magnet city of Delhi.

As per Scindia the entire area under Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, Guna, Datia and Shivpuri can be developed as a single metropolitan area which in turn would benefit the people of the area.

At that time Kamal Nath had assured Scindia that immediate steps would be taken to upgrade Gwalior as a metro. However the Chief Secretary said that as of now there are no plans to develop Gwalior as a metro.

The CS also said that Madhya Pradesh will soon have the Right to Water Act, aimed at solving the water problems of the citizens. On this topic he further said that the government is committed to provide

adequate

drinking water to the people and many steps have already been initiated to address the water crisis in the state.

Before leaving for Bhopal the Chief Secretary also visited the temple of Shani Dev, situated at Ethy village and offered prayers for the prosperity and well being of the people of Madhya Pradesh.
