The Gwalior Traffic Police are all set to involve the public in solving the traffic problems in the city and bring some sense of order and control to the present chaotic traffic system.

The Smart City authorities have been finding it tough to resolve the traffic related problems in the city. One of the main causes of worry for the authorities has been the absence of any secondary road system resulting in the uneven distribution of traffic over large areas, and the overflow of local traffic on to arterial roads, creating congestion.

Another big worry is the encroachment on the narrow roads and pavements, resulting in hours long clogging. There are also poorly planned junctions on major roads that cause regular traffic jams holding up traffic over long distances.

According to sources, the Traffic Police and the Smart City authorities will hold discussions with the public at various points, soliciting suggestions and plans to solve these issues. These suggestions and plans will be sent to the Police Headquarters in Bhopal for taking the final call.

In this connection, The Police Head Quarters have asked the city police to create more awareness among the public about the various traffic related issues like wearing of helmets and seat belts, and observing the signal lights.

The City Police have also been told to issue e-challans in place of on-the-spot physical ones so as to create more transparency in the system. The PHQ has also issued instructions to implement the Smart Card system which is expected to save a lot of time and energy for all concerned. They have also asked the city police to collect the data of drivers of all public transport.

Speaking to the media persons, Navneet Bhasin, Gwalior SP said that talks will be soon initiated with the public to find ways to solve the traffic worries of the city. He also appealed to the citizens to make this endeavor a success.
