A Ghaziabad resident and an international mountaineer scaled and unfurled the Indian flag on Mount Everest on May 22, 2019. The mountaineer Sagar Kasana, conquered the peak on May 22, 2019 and hoisted the Indian flag over it.
Sagar Kasana’s father Ajab Singh Kasana said, “Sagar left Ghaziabad on April 4, 2019 and reached Kathmandu in Nepal on the same day. He left Kathmandu on April 6, and reached base camp (1) on May 3, 2019 via Lukla, Fekdeag, Nemche bazar, Tyagboche Monastery, Dingboche and Laboche”.
“Sagar reached Mount Everest on May 4 via Base camp (1), (2) and (3). He had to remain at base camp (4) for 18 days as weather was not conducive to climbing. During this 18 days stay at base camp (4), his group faced several weather threats including thunder storms. The four member group consisted one Australian Krick Wood, a Russian Alexander, a Bulgarian Evan Tommo and this Indian Sagar Kasana”, his father said.
During their effort to scale the highest peak of Mount Everest, the Bulgarian maintaineer Evan Tommo died due to high altitude sickness. After seeing Bulgarian’s death, two other mountaineers refused to scale the peak and returned to Lhotse submit.
Undaunted Sagar Kasana decided to conquer the world’s highest peak along with a guide Tamang.
In a telephonic talk, Sagar said, “I started the tough journey during and faced he faced harsh weather conditions of icy thunder storms on slippery tracks and high speed winds. I finally succeeded to scale the world highest peak, at 10:15 am on Monday May 22, 2019 and unfurled the Indian flag”.
Earlier, Sagar had scaled high peaks of mountain in Leh, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal and mount Alburse in Europe and Russia.
He has also scaled Mount Kilimazaro a dormant volcano in Tanzania.
An Ambassador of Swach Bharat mission for Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation Sagar Kasana is the final year student at Noida college of physical education and hails from Sakalpur village in Loni area of Ghaziabad.
He is set return on June 01, and according to his father, they are preparing to welcome him in a grand way.
