Gzb to get 2nd Metro corridor by next week

Friday, 15 February 2019 | SP Singh | GHAZIABAD

Commuting will be much easier than earlier for the people of National Capital Region (NCR) especially Ghaziabad as the city is going to get its second Metro network by next week.

With the 9.63 kilometre long Dilshad Garden-New Bus Adda corridor got approval by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS); residents would greatly be benefited as it connects interior areas of the city.

The 9.63 km long sections, also an extension of the operational Rithala-Dilshad Garden Red Line will have eight elevated Metro stations such as Shaheed Nagar, Raj Bagh, Rajendra Nagar, Shyam Park, Mohan Nagar, Arthala, Hindon River Station and New Bus Adda. Currently, there is only one stretch in Ghaziabad from Anand Vihar toVaishali but this will be first line to connect the satellite parts of the city.

“This will be first stretch that will benefit people living in inner parts of Ghaziabad. This corridor will pass through the Sahibabad Industrial Area and will significantly impact the residential areas lying in proximity. Currently, commuters have to rely on other modes of transport from Dilshad Garden to reach Sahibabad and further Ghaziabad. Now with extension of metro, connectivity to Mohan Nagar from Dilshad Garden would also improve considerably,” said Anuj Dayal, Executive Director (Corporate communication),” Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

A total of 35 six coach trains will be used on the entire Rithala-New Bus Adda Red Line. The total journey from Dilshad Garden to New Bus Adda will take about 16 minutes.

Out of the eight stations, six stations (Raj Bagh, Rajendra Nagar, Shyam Park, Mohan Nagar, Arthala, and New Bus Adda) will have station buildings on both sides interconnecting at the concourse level and with station platforms through Foot over Bridges (FOB). The bridges will also be open for the non-metro users to cross the roads. The corporations will further create parking facilities at Shaheed Nagar, Hindon River and New Bus Adda stations for general public.

“This stretch and its station will be different from other stations of DMRC as these stations have its building on both sides of the road and the platform is on the central verge along the viaduct i.e. the platforms are not a part of the station buildings but separate,” said an official.

The 25.09 km long Red Line currently operates between Rithala to Dilshad Garden. However, once the new section will open, the entire Red Line will become 34.72 kms in length.Currently, the Delhi Metro has a network of around 327 kilometre with 236 stations across Delhi-NCR. However, once the opening of the Dilshad Gharden- New Bus Adda section, the entire network will become 330 kilometres.

However, with adding 30 km network long Greater Noida section, DMRC second largest network after China with 390 kilometer network.
