A hardcore female Naxal carrying a cash reward of Rs 8 lakh on her head was shot down in an encounter with left wing extremists in the insurgency-hit Dhamtari district, police said here on Tuesday.
According to police, they had received specific intelligence input about presence of Maoists in the jungles of Kattipani and Tarajhar under Borai police station limits.
“An elite commandos of Special Task Force (STF) immediately swung into action and launched search operation from Borai police station limits,” a police official said.
Security personnel had a face-off with armed Maoists in a forested patch near Boraigaon which resulted in the gun battle. After a brief gun battle, Naxals slipped into jungle and later while searching of area body of a woman Naxal in uniform was found, police said while adding an INSAS rifle with two magazines were also found at the spot.
She was identified as Seema, secretary and Naxal Divisional Committee Member (DVCM) of Sitanadi area committee and carried a reward of Rs 8 lakh on her head, police claimed.
Seema was wanted in connection with serious Maoist incidents like, murder, loot, arson, dacoity and others, police said.
