HC rejects Rai’s plea, reserves verdict on Tirkey

The Jharkhand High Court has reserved its verdict after hearing both the sides in the matter of granting bail to former Jharkhand Government Minister Bandhu Tirkey.

Bandhu Tirkey is accused of making a statement in support of Pathalgadi. In this case, the ex-minister Tirkey had filed a bail petition in the High Court. Earlier in the day, in the National Sports Scam case, the High Court reserved the verdict on his bail plea. The Court had earlier sought a case diary in order of hearing. The Bench of Justice R Mukhopadhyay reserved his verdict after an hour-long debate on both sides in the Court. Actually, the accused in the 34th National Sports Scam case, has filed a petition in the High Court, seeking bail.Former Jharkhand Minister, Harinarayan Rai on Thursday has received a setback from the Jharkhand High Court. The High Court has rejected his plea to contest elections. Rai had filed a petition in the High Court seeking a stay on the punishment for contesting the election. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) Court sentenced Rai for the money laundering case.

Rai is accused of money laundering of Rs 3 72 crore. In this case, Rai, his wife Sushila Devi and brother Sanjay Rai, have been sentenced to seven years each and fined Rs 50,000 each. The Enforcement Directorate has also seized his residence in Ranchi.
