Hearing on a public interest litigation filed against use of ropes and cables for adventure sports at Kamaltal, the high court of Uttarakhand has sought a reply from the government within three weeks.
According to the case details, PK Karnatak (Sanskritik Manch Naukuchiatal) had filed a public interest litigation in the high court stating that in order to encourage tourism, some persons had started adventure sports using ropes or cables at Kamaltal.
This activity was damaging the lotus flowers that bloom in the lake.
The lotus flowers blooming in Kamaltal are also a symbol of faith for the local people.
This lake is known across the nation and abroad due to the lotuses and is also named after them.
The petitioner has appealed that adventure sports be stopped at the said location.
After hearing the petition, the division bench of chief justice Ramesh Ranganathan and justice NS Dhanik directed the government to submit its reply within three weeks.
