Life was thrown into disarray as heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds, lashed the city on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The city has been almost paralysed for two days by heavy downpours, accompanied with winds, and trees falling at many places, damaging vehicles and other properties.
There are also reports of heavy damage to distribution cables and electric poles, causing great inconveniences to the citizens. The heavy rains and thunderstorms have also caused power outages in several areas.
The sudden and unforeseen rains that lashed the Gwalior-Chambal Division for the past two days have also brought doom to the farmers as reports of extensive damages to crops are pouring in from various parts of the Division. At many places, the standing wheat and mustard crop have been damaged with some reports saying the rainwater has flooded the storage areas.
There are also reports of damages to soyabean and corn crops. Taking a serious view of the situation in the rural areas, the Gwalior Collector has asked SDM Amit Bamroulioa, SDM Jayanti Singh and SDM Ashok Chauhan to immediately proceed to Ghatigaon, Bhitarwar and Dabra to make on-the- spot assessment of the damages to crops in these areas.
The immediate effect of the heavy rains is felt in the vegetable and fruit markets of the city. Vegetable and fruit prices have gone up by almost 30 % due to short supply.
