Himalayan Echoes concludes with book release and discussions

The final day of Himalayan Echoes- Kumaon festival of literature and arts saw release of historian Shekhar Pathak’s book Hari Bhari Ummeed. Actor Manisha Koirala and participated in a talk on her book ‘Healing’ on recovering from cancer. Among others, Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot also attended the event on Sunday.

Addressing the gathering, Pathak said that four-laning the road in the name of development–all-weather road-is a danger to the Himalaya.

He also opined that the current times are not good for independent writing. Expressing concern over impact of global warming on the Himalayas and criticising the all-weather road project in Uttarakhand, he cited the example of China which had constructed only a two-lane road to Lhasa in Tibet for minimising ecological damage.

Later, Koirala talked about her book with Pushpesh Pant.

Pilot’s book Politics and Literature was also discussed on the occasion. During the evening session saw a discussion involving Pant, Namita Gokhale and Vani Tripathi. The festival director Janhavi Prasada, Congress leader Jitin Prasada and a number of writers were also present on the occasion.
