nAnnoyed with ‘lethargic” attitude the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) in clearing their three months dues, all the doctors and nurses of Hindu Rao hospital have decided to go on strike from Monday.
A meeting to resolve the salary issue was held between Senior Corporation’s official including municipal health officer and resident doctors on Friday which bore no results. Following the failure of talks in resolving the impending crisis, thousands of patients are expected to bear the brunt of officials’ apathy.
Alleging the health Commissioner of NMC Jayraj Naik for being “insensitive” in resolving their concern, Rahul Chaudhary, the president of Resident Doctors Association at the hospital said that
the Commissioner did not pay any heed and directed us to keep working.
“The meeting today ended with no solution. We are left with no option except going on indefinite strike,” he said.
Rahul also accused the administration for forcing them to back on work or face consequences. “Ratna Chopra, head of department (surgery) threatened to ruin our career if we go with the strike,” he alleged.
The corporations have to understand that they have a duty towards their staff.
We have been surviving here without salary. How can
one work with such
uncertainty? We have many expenses to pay besides surviving,” he said.
Resident doctors have also raised the issue of pathetic condition of the wards, OPD building and unhygienic surrounding despite being the hospital run by the municipal corporation.
They also alleged that there is always shortage of essential medicines even in emergency ward. In this situation, Doctors have to face the wrath of patients and their relatives, he said.
However, the Health Commissioner did not
respond to calls and messages, when contacted.
Hindu Rao Hospital is the biggest among the six hospitals run by the North Corporation. Doctors were also abstained from duty for three hours on Thursday morning to protest over the delay in payment of their salaries.
