Sleuths of Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Wednesday raided houses of Rekha Nair, the former stenographer of suspended Chhattisgarh director general of police Mukesh Gupta, who is under scanner in connection with a multi-crore PDS scam.
Sources said raids, which were underway till late in the evening, were conducted simultaneously in Nair’s residences in the state capital Raipur and Bhilai.
The outcome of the raids was not yet disclosed.
During earlier raids, the EOW unearthed her disproportionate assets worth Rs 3 crore in Raipur. It also seized her accounts at a Kovalam-based bank in Kerala.
An FIR was also lodged against her by the EOW following the earlier raids.
The EOW’s earlier search had revealed that Rekha had on her name plot worth Rs 35 Lakh at Nardaha in Raipur, a bungalow at Maruti Solitaire complex worth Rs 65 Lakhs and plots of land in two other places in Raipur, apart from a villa in her name in Kovalam in Kerala.
Soon after coming to power earlier this year, the Congress government suspended Gupta and filed an FIR against him and another police officer after they were allegedly found involved in illegal phone tapping while investigating the PDS case.
In the PDS scam that surfaced during the BJP regime in 2015, huge amount of money was allegedly embezzled by pumping sub-standard food grains into the public distribution system.
