A student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar died when he fell off the roof of a hostel late on Monday evening.
The deceased, identified as Chirag Pravin Jain, had been rushed to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Chirag was a BTech (Computer Science) second year student and a native of Pune in Maharashtra. He was staying in Mahanadi Hall of Residence Hostel. At around 7.30 pm, he fell from the sixth floor of the hostel. It is suspected that he committed suicide.
“Last evening, a student of IIT-Bhubaneswar fell off the roof and smashed his head. He was rushed to hospital, but he died. A case of unnatural death has been registered; and we are investigating into the case,” city DCP Anup Sahu said.
Later, the IIT Bhubaneswar in a release said, “In an unfortunate incident, Chirag Pravin Jain, Computer Science Engineering student of second year, was found dead on October 21 during evening hours. The parents of the deceased have already been informed. Local police are currently investigating the matter and trying to ascertain the exact cause of the death.”
