Some months ago, MCD had started a drive against unauthorised vendors on roadsides but problem has remained largely unresolved. As soon as officials stop visiting the market areas, unauthorised vendors return to encroaching on public space. A municipal official said, “There is not a lot we can do. The unauthorised vendors are penalised. However, there are some proposals regarding construction of the vendors zones which will likely be given by tender process.
The final decision lies with the senior officials.”
