2 held for selling lottery tickets in B’swar

Baleswar: The Baleswar Town police on Thursday arrested three persons on the charges of selling lottery tickets illegally. The police took action on the complaints lodged by some residents of the Golapokhari residents.

Dowry death alleged in Jaleswar

Baleswar: Relatives of one Rumita Behera have filed an FIR at the Jaleswar police station alleging that Ruminta was killed by her in-laws for dowry. Rumita had married to Ratikanta Behera of Bartana village 14 years ago. She was a mother of two children. She allegedly committed suicide by hanging. However, the complaints have alleged that she was murdered owing to want of dowry and hanged by in-laws.   

Gangadhar Meher Jayanti observed in Bargarh 

Bargarh: More than 2.5 lakh students of different schools and colleges of the district observed the Gangadhar Meher Jayanti here on Wednesday. The Bargarh district administration also observed the day at the Saukhin Ranga Manch, Bargarh under the chairmanship of Collector Indramani Tripathy. Among others, MLA Debesh Acharya, DEO Prakash Joshi and Saukhin Artists Association president Ashwini Panda were present.

6.2 kg ganja seized, 2 held in Brahmapur

Brahmapur: The Goshani Nuagaon police on Wednesday seized 6.2 kg of ganja and arrested two persons in this connection. The arrestees were identified as Jinu Adhikari and John Bisoyi of Gajapati district. The police while patrolling intercepted them and seized the ganja from their possession.

Bhapur block officials, elected members hold meet

Bhapur: A meeting of Bhapur block officers and elected representatives was held here recently under the chairmanship of BDO-in-Charge Antaryami Das. Bhapur block Vice-Chairman Gayadhar Parida attended the meeting wherein discussions were held on matters including the beneficiaries in various developmental schemes of the Central and State Governments. As many as 20 Sarpanches and Samiti Members were present.

JSPL donates study materials for jail inmates’ kids

Angul: The JSPL Foundation, in association with the John Augusts Prison and Social Welfare Services (JAPASWS) distributed study materials for the children of inmates of the Angul jail on Wednesday. Angul ADM TK Satapathy and JSPL Odisha COO Pankaj Gautam as guests distributed the study kits in the presence of Jail Superintendent RK Sahu, JSPL CSR and R VP SK Sharma, CSR GM Puspalata Satapathy and JAPASWS secretary PK Choudhury.

Paradip Refinery holds plantation drive

Paradip: The Paradip Refinery held a plantation drive in Chakulia village under Potanai GP on Wednesday. Thousands of saplings were planted in the Swaminarayan Vidyamandir premises by school students and local villagers. The refinery is observing the Swachhta Pakhwada from August 16 to 31 and holding cleaning activities at Paradip railway station, cleanliness drive at Sani Mandir, Nimidhi and Gada Kujang Jagannath Temple, an awareness drive, Nukad Natak for public awareness with a Swachhta message.
